NRDC – Transferring Innovative Technologies to Transform India: National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) is the oldest and largest technology transfer organization in the country. It was set up in 1953 with a mandate to develop, promote and transfer technologies/commercializing Intellectual Properties (IPs)/Technologies emanating from various national R&D institutions, universities and PSUs in the country. NRDC offers its IPR and Technology Transfer services in wide ranging areas like: Agro & Food processing, Pharma, Biotechnology, Chemicals, Energy, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, etc., and acts as an effective catalyst in translating innovative research outcomes into marketable industrial products/processes and services.

NRDC has the largest repository of Indian technologies (about 2,500), filed about 1,700 patents in India and abroad and it has signed around 5,000 license agreements so far with many entrepreneurs/start-ups/ SMEs for transfer of technologies in different sectors in India and abroad, which are developed by various laboratories under CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DRDO, IITs/ Universities, Central Silk and Coir Boards, and PSUs, and has acquired rich experience in IPRs Management and Technology Transfer. NRDC provides unique value added services to the technology development institutions and entrepreneurs/ start-ups to mature the technologies further and make them investment ready, before being licensed.

NRDC has been adding value to indigenously developed laboratory-scale technologies by way of rendering technical and financial assistance for protection of the inventions by filing patents in India and abroad, scaling up the technologies/prototype development/ carrying out field trials/clinical trials, testing and quality certification, preparation of basic engineering design packages, market survey, feasibility/detailed project reports. Besides technology licensing, NRDC gives national awards (Innovation Award, Societal Innovation Award and Budding Innovators Award) for meritorious innovations; provides angel funding and services to incubation centres; and conducts skill development programs. The breakthrough technologies licensed by NRDC in electronics field include Indelible Ink, Small HP Tractor, Titanium Substrate Insoluble Anodes (TSIA), Artificial Heart Valves, Silver-Impregnated Graphite (SIG) Contacts, Glucose Biosensor, Hybrid Micro Circuits, etc. NRDC has also successfully exported technologies and services to both developed as well as the developing countries like USA, Germany, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Senegal, Indonesia, Madagascar, Philippine, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Brazil and Bangladesh.. NRDC is recognized, particularly in the developing countries, as the source of reliable appropriate technology, machines and services, which are typically suitable for these countries.

National Research Development Corporation and Hong Kong Trade Development Council of Hong Kong special Administration Region of the People’s Republic of China singed a MoU for Strategic Partnerships on 07/12/2018 at Hong Kong during the Business of IP Asia Forum held from 6-7 December, 2018 at Hong Kong.

The objective of the Strategic Partnership is to facilitate Business Matching Services, IP Commercialisation for mutual benefit and listing of Indian IPs on Asia IP Exchange on voultary basis, sharing of HKTDC experiences with NRDC in establishing Indian IP Exchange as they have established and managing a largest online IP Exchange in Asia. The IP Exchange has 36 strategic partners around the globe with 28000 tradeable IP listings in emerging technologies.

The Strategic Partnership MoU was signed by the Dr. H. Purushotham, CMD, NRDC and Mr. Raymond Yip, Dy. Executive Director, HKTDC. Mr. Cliford Napoleon Sequeire, an official from Consulate General of India in Hong Kong was also present during the MoU signing and exchanging Ceremony.
